ALL in to support adult learners

The Adult Learner Lab (ALL) is a hub for innovation dedicated to reshaping postsecondary possibilities for adult learners across the country. Grounded in rigorous research and powered by practitioner collaboration, the ALL serves as a home for generating new ideas, sharing promising practices from colleges, and scaling strategies that honor the academic journeys and lives of adult learners.

We envision a world where every adult learner, regardless of where they come, connect with a college in a way that promotes their success. The ALL serves as a model, partner and thought leader for colleges to accelerate strategies that help adult learners access faster, more affordable pathways, earn credentials of value and receive the personalized supports they need to succeed and thrive. Our work is anchored in three commitments that guide every project and partnership:

  1. Reducing time to credential/degree. We elevate strategies that shorten the path to completion for adult learners, including awarding credit for prior learning, offering flexible formats, streamlining advising and designing programs with adult learners in mind.
  2. Ensuring every adult learner earns a credential of value. We champion pathways that lead to economic mobility, family-sustaining wages and opportunities that align adult learners’ goals with high-demand workforce needs.
  3. Providing personalized supports for every adult learner. We share promising practices around advising, public messaging, onboarding and wraparound services for adult learners in curriculum and short-term training programs to meet adult learners where they’re at.
Where evidence meets implementation to advance adult learner success.

The ALL is a place where research becomes action, where practitioners can develop and learn together, and where adult learners’ voices shape the work. Through applied research, communities of practice and cross collaboration, the ALL helps community colleges build capacity to redesign their public messaging, partnerships, processes, pathways and proximity to support adult learners.
